Inquiry into the Priorities for the future of Welsh Rail Infrastructure

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing with regards to the Welsh Rail Infrastructure Consultation that was reported in the January edition of the Marshfield Mail.

My family have lived in Marshfield for 11 years and in that time the population has risen considerably. Commuters that work in Newport and Cardiff currently depend on the x16 village bus service or the 30 bus service to travel to either of the aforementioned cities. The bus stop for the 30 bus service is in Castleton, a 15-20 minute walk from Marshfield.

In relation to the below point outlined on the Welsh Assembly website, I believe that a local train service stopping at Marshfield between Newport and Cardiff, would reduce journey times for the residents of Marshfield making their daily commute. This would also provide an alternative means of transport for car owners and hopefully reduce the number of vehicles on roads, traffic and CO2 emissions for the local area.

‘High level priorities for the development of rail infrastructure to provide the capacity and connectivity necessary to support the social and economic well-being of Wales’.

Yours faithfully,

Resident of Marshfield
